Building Case Studies
Thornybush Gardens is the premier development built by Trevor Martin Developments Ltd which perfectly demonstrates the company’s ability to produce a well thought out and varied range of high quality homes.
After thirty years experience of building, refurbishing and renovating properties for his customers, Trevor Martin decided he wanted a project of his own. And with the purchase in 2000 of a house and building yard in the small village of Medstead Hampshire, he came closer to realising this ambition. The rural location, combined with the additional purchase of an adjacent cottage and large paddock, resulted in a perfect site for redevelopment.
At the final presentation of site designs and planning applications to the local Approvals Panel, Trevor received a unanimous decision to proceed with the development; confirming that his vision for the land was exactly right and would enhance the local area.
The site is perfectly proportioned with only sixteen houses, each one having its own individual character and style. Trevor’s exceptional attention to detail, plus a dedicated handpicked workforce, has resulted in superb high specification family homes.
The kitchens, fitted with granite worktops and Neff appliances, have underfloor central heating throughout the ground floor, which creates a pleasant welcoming temperature. The well thought out living space has plenty of storage, whilst from the living room double French doors open onto a large patio and the garden. All bathrooms are tiled and have a separate underfloor heating system, heated towel rails, cupboard space and a showerhead over the bath. En-suites have shower cubicles.
The overall appearance of the development with its variety of property styles, decorative brickwork, superb tiling and the Victorian style front doors in classic shades continues to attract attention and has impressed buyers, locals, and property developers alike. The clever combination of detached four bedroom homes, three bedroom terrace cottages, and four bedroom townhouses that comprise Thornybush Gardens has produced an interesting and harmonious mix of residents of all ages.

The largest of the four townhouses. We adapted the design slightly to create a double aspect room over the driveway which gives tremendous views of the road and fields behind. There is also a second en suite in bedroom two.
The internal design of the house was altered to suit the needs of the clients, who bought off-plan; they wanted an open plan living space with wood burning stove and conservatory.
Three bedroom terraced homes with decorative brickwork and parking spaces out front. Plot 9 has a separate garage to the side of the house. Master bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and a luxury en suite shower room.
End of terrace family home with large front and rear gardens. Large L-shaped living room, separate kitchen and shower room on ground floor, plus three double bedrooms and en suite.
This mid terrace house was our second choice for a Show Home and perfectly demonstrates the luxury kitchen, large living room and master bedroom with en suite. (Plots 12 & 13 have the same floor plan)
Our one and only two bedroom property on the development. Two double bedrooms, a large living room, and a stunning example of the Victorian style front door with side panel, leading into a spacious hall.
A triple aspect end of terrace house with stunning steep gable slated roofs and feature plain tile hung walls. Both the living room and kitchen in this plot are dual aspected to give the maximum light. Each property has french doors from the living room which open onto an Indian stone patio and in this case, the owners have created a colourful garden which serves to enhance the whole development.
Built to the personal requirements of the developer Trevor Martin and his family, this is a four bedroom detached house with open plan kitchen, dining and family room featuring double bi-fold glass doors which open on to the patio, and separate sitting room. Private fenced garden, integral garage, driveway parking
Bradstone Brook was originally constructed for London merchant Thomas Gibson in the late 1700’s. Situated in the idyllic village of Shalford, just south of Guildford, it lies in fourteen acres of rolling parkland, with stunning gardens designed by Gertrude Jekyll. Sadly, the house fell into disrepair and was sold in the 1970’s to a local architect Michael Wilson who, in conjunction with Trevor Martin Developments Ltd carried out extensive rebuilding and renovation of the Grade II listed building transforming it into magnificent apartments. A further eleven 2 to 5 bedroom homes were built in the grounds, all designed and fitted to compliment the main house and its environs. Today, the mansion of Bradstone Brook is fully restored to its original splendour in this private gated development.
Trevor Martin Developments Ltd have now completed the last New Build property at the location. It was necessary to leave the original squash court wall and blend it into the construction of a fantastic new house with outstanding views overlooking playing fields. The new property was designed to blend in with the existing buildings using the same type of hand-made bricks, the mixed colour range of Keymer tiles and the purpose-made matching joinery. Trevor Martin Developments Ltd received many compliments from the residents due to finishing the work on time and with minimum inconvenience. Consequently, they are currently still working with customers who came to them through the resulting recommendations.

The project consisted of the demolition of a cattle shed, associated barns, and clearance of the extensive site. Of the one salvageable barn, only two existing walls were left. The bricks, concrete and debris removed from the walls was then crushed for hardcore purposes. Underpinning works commenced as did the repairing and renovation of the existing walls. Footings were then dug and slab laid; followed by the installation of the ground heat pump and pipework in the adjacent field.

Construction of the new house then commenced, which featured oak trusses and glass work to make the most of the fantastic views of the fields surrounding the property. We used Ashurst clay hand crafted tiles for the roof, incorporating a lead roll-top roof and lead-clad dormers, together with solar panels. Internal works included oak staircases throughout and a feature loft balcony detail. Final completion work comprised the fitting of a bespoke kitchen, along with internal floor tiling, timber floors and internal decorations. This is a magnificent house which has retained all the charm and originality of the period, by the clever use of salvaged bricks in its construction.
We started work on this property at the beginning of 2012; we removed the existing chimney from top to bottom and made good the roof, ceilings, floors and walls, completing all the works in one week (see case file). We were then asked if it was possible to remove the old existing outbuildings/utility room and build a new extension. An indication of the costs was provided which was within the budget. A local architect drew the plans and acquired all the relevant planning and Building Regulation approvals.

We booked the project in before it finished the planning process so we could start straight away, once approved. We have now completed the project which consisted of removal of the existing outbuildings and utility room, blocking up existing windows, converting the main bathroom and constructing a new purpose-built utility room, cloakroom and storage area, all on time and within budget. Whilst working at the property we also carried out some emergency insurance work.
